Kerning (from Wikipedia): “In typography, kerning (less commonly mortising) is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result. Kerning adjusts the space between individual letter forms, while tracking (letter-spacing) adjusts spacing uniformly over a range of characters. In a well-kerned font, the two-dimensional blank spaces between each pair of characters all have similar area.”

Awesome. I actuallyalwayswonderedwhatthatwascalled. If I had a band I would call it “unkerned”.
Is it weird that I never notice this? But now I think it may drive me crazy. Great idea word of the week.
That’s a great cartoon! It’s going on my office bulletin board. I actually knew that word. When WordPerfect was more popular I would occasionally go in and adjust the kerning. I have never tried it in MS Word.
